Main Point: On earth as it is in Heaven

Anchor Passage: James 3:2 NLT Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.

Prophetic Thought: James admonishes those who profess faith in Jesus and seek positions of influence or leadership that their lives must reflect the message they proclaim. Those who teach and lead carry greater responsibility because their words shape the faith and lives of others. The challenge is that our words and our actions don't always align, creating a gap between what we claim to believe and how we actually live. James calls us to recognize that influence is not just about what we say, it's about whether our lives give credibility to the gospel we proclaim.

Application: We are all influencers. Whether we're in the grocery store, behind the wheel, at work, at school, serving others, or navigating the highs and lows of our relationships, our words and actions are constantly telling the world not only what we believe about Jesus, but also what God thinks about His creation. Every interaction gives us the opportunity to either tear others down, or reflect the image of God to a world that is watching. In the moments that seem ordinary, and in the moments that feel like they're going to break us, do we sound like we belong to Jesus? Can the world tell that our hope is in Him and that Heaven is truly our home?

James 3:1 Dear brothers and sisters,[a] not many of you should become teachers in the church, for we who teach will be judged more strictly.

Matthew 12:34 You brood of snakes! How could evil men like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say.

Matthew 6:9-13 Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.
